To my mind, freeware applications are the best. You can download them, put them to the test, and then uninstall them if you don’t find the functionality they offer useful. This is not something that will likely happen after you download and install the Martin Pesch-developed free audio editor MP3DirectCut.

You will want to keep MP3DirectCut on your Windows-powered computer forever and ever and I can quote at least three reasons for this:
Functionality – MP3DirectCut is an audio editor that allows you to make various changes to MP3 files. You can trim an MP3 file, cut out the parts you don’t need. MP3DirectCut’s cutting, copying and pasting capabilities are non-destructive.

On top of that you can change the volume, fade, detect pauses, and normalize noise. Last but not least, you can do all this with compressed MP3 files. Yes, you don’t have to decompress MP3 files to edit them with MP3DirectCut.

There’s one more thing MP3DirectCut does – it also records audio. It features a built-in recorder that will save audio input as an MP3 file.

Ease of use – If you have used audio editors before, you will immediately understand how MP3DirectCut works. Even if you are a complete novice and you haven’t used an audio editor before, it will not be that hard to get started with MP3DirectCut.

It’s free – I know I already mentioned this above, but it is something that deservers re-mentioning. Think about it like this: you get to use an intuitive, fast, efficient MP3 cutter for as long as you want and you don’t have to part with your hard earned money. If you feel like money is burning a hole in your pocket, you could make a donation to Martin Pesch and support the development of MP3DirectCut. But if money is tight, and money is tight in this harsh economy, you will be glad that MP3DirectCut is free.

So to sum it up, MP3DirectCut is a powerful audio editor, a properly good MP3 cutter that’s easy to use and is offered free of charge. What’s not to like about it?

Pros
  • Free
  • Easy to use
  • Non-destructive cut, copy, paste
  • Volume change, fade, normalize, pause detection
  • MP3 recording with ACM or Lame encoder

Cons
  • None that I could think of
